Barbara Sue Clay

Barbara Sue Floyd Clay age 89, of S. OKC, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 in Bellevue Health and Rehab. Barbara was born on August 15, 1934 to George Lafayette Poore and Zelia (Leachman) Poore. Barbara grew up in South Oklahoma City and while in high school married Loren Monroe Floyd on April 21, 1951. Loren was in the Army and during the first years of their marriage was stationed in Germany. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1952 Barbara traveled to Germany for a six month stay. Barbara and Loren together raised two children, Susan and Randy. They worked many years for her parent's family business, "Southside Electric Co.". Then later in the 1970's and 80's, Barbara and Loren owned and operated "Loren Floyd Homes" a home building business. Barbara and Loren were happily married for 36 years before he passed away on June 20, 1987. Two years later Barbara married again, marrying Benny Elbert Clay on Dec. 9, 1989. Now two loving families became united as one. Barbara welcomed Elbert's three children, James, Terry and Tirzah as her very own. Together Barbara and Elbert lived in Newcastle for 19 years before moving to Oklahoma City in 2008. She was a faithful Christian and a very active member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church for the past 35 years. She loved attending Sunday School, singing in the Church Choir and being involved in other church activities. Throughout her life, she enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens. In her later years, Barbara and Elbert enjoyed doing some traveling and keeping up with their grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother and step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an incredibly special person that will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by: Infant Brother, Donald Ray Poore. Her parents, George and Zelia Poore. Her husbands, Loren Floyd in 1987, and Elbert Clay in 2017. She is survived by her 5 children, Susan Freeman and husband Bobby of OKC, Randy Floyd and wife Brooke of OKC, James Clay and wife Joy of Newcastle, Terry Clay and wife April of Newcastle, Tirzah Carrel and husband Kevin of Jones, OK. 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also many other loving relatives and friends. There will be a visitation on Monday evening, March 4, from 5-7 pm at Wilson-Little Funeral Home, 3132 Tri City Ave, Newcastle, OK. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, OK. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Newcastle First Baptist Church.
