Betty Mae Lewis

Betty Mae (Breeding) Lewis, 80, of Noble went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2024. Betty was born in Oklahoma City, OK on November 5, 1943 to Charles and Ola Breeding. On December 6, 1963, she married Paul Ervin Lewis, they were happily married until his death in 2003. Together they raised their daughter, Kimberly, at their home in Noble. Betty was a long-time member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where God called her to be a Children's Sunday School teacher. This was a calling that she fulfilled until she could no longer drive the distance to church. She loved to cook and bake. Making homemade pies for Thanksgiving and cinnamon rolls for Christmas gifts were some of her favorite things to do. Betty never missed a chance to cook a meal for "her girls" before a basketball game or practice. She always wanted them to have plenty of energy when it was time to play. Betty loved animals, all animals. Betty not only raised dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens but she also had a beloved goat, Laverne and she broke horses on occasion. She was known by local animal control officers and was often called to rescue various animals that were found by the officers, many of which she bottle-fed before finding loving homes for them. One of her favorite rescue animals was a baby raccoon who she named Rascal. Betty litter and leash trained Rascal, and she loved taking Rascal for her daily walk. She also had a love for birds. Her favorite bird was a cockatiel named Jack. Jack knew many words and would even answer questions on occasion. He could often be seen sitting on Betty's shoulder, sometimes even while she was at the grocery store. Betty's most treasured title was "Nuna" which she was granted at the birth of her only grandchild, Zander, in 2008. When Zander was born, Betty put a hold on all personal things in her life for a little over a year. She spent that year driving 50 miles every Monday and Friday to spend the week at her daughter's house taking care of Zander so that his parents could work. Zander was her pride and joy, she loved spending time with him and especially watching him on stage. Even when she was in a memory care facility, Betty would listen to recordings of Zander singing and it would bring a huge smile to her face. She was a beloved Nuna, mother, sister, friend and woman of faith. She will be dearly missed. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, parents, Charles and Ola Breeding, sister-in-law Judy Breeding, brother-in-law Milton Reeves, nephew Matthew and niece Linda. She is survived by her daughter Kim Hornbuckle, husband Bobby and grandson Zander of Edmond. Her sisters JoAnne Reeves and Charlene Breeding of Oklahoma City, sister Terri Burke and husband James of Tuttle, and brother Gary Breeding and wife Kim of Tennessee. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, April 19th, 2024 at Oklahoma City Family Church at 8300 S. Santa Fe Ave., Oklahoma City, OK. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Bradley Cemetery.
