Carrell Mainord

Carrell Mainord, age 88, of Purcell passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on May 12, 1937 to William and Emma (Graham) Mainord. He was the youngest of 4 children born to the couple. Carrell graduated with the Purcell Dragon Class of 1955. He worked for many years as a telephone repairman for General Telephone Company before retiring. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing with family and friends anytime he could. Carrell spent 28 years with his sweetheart, Mary Lou Keeler. The couple enjoyed eating catfish at Libby’s, burgers at Ruby’s or just going anywhere for a good ole’ fashioned burger. He enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at McDonald’s and an afternoon Braum’s trip for ice cream and watching the ducks with his sweetheart at the Purcell lake. Carrell had a knack for making you feel special and everyone had a nickname for him. His nicknames were “Mutt”, “Carrell”, “Uncle Nice Guy”, “Uncle Carrell”, “CJ”, “Papa C” and “Pop”. He would lovingly answer to them all. Carrell was loved dearly and will be missed greatly. He served in the Purcell First Free Will Baptist Church for years as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was very well versed in the Bible and scripture and is credited by many as one who helped lead them to the Lord. Carrell served in the U.S. Army from June 23, 1960 to May 30, 1966. He was stationed in Hawaii as a member of the 3rd Recon Squadron 4th Calvary, Blood Group B. He left the Army honorably serving as a Private E2, he was a rifle marksman, and served as the driver for a General during his station in Hawaii. Carrell is preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Mainord; his brothers, Wilber John Mainord and Troy C. Mainord; his sister Earlene Hooper; and his best friend, Rick Witten. He is survived by his sweetheart, Mary Lou Keeler of Purcell; his nephews, Robby Hooper and wife Janie of OKC and Tony Hooper and wife Cindy of Moore; his niece Karen Mahan and husband Clint of McAlester; his bonus daughters, Kim Whaley and husband Tim of Duncan, Kari Madden and husband Todd of Washington and Krista Snow and husband Brian of Weatherford, TX; several great nieces and nephews; his bonus grandkids, Seth and Kace Madden, Dylan and Allie Whaley and Eisley Snow; and a host of friends. Graveside services are set for Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, OK.
