Charles Franklin Herring

Charles Herring was called by our Lord on January 3, 2025 to join He and his wife, Sammie Herring. Charles was many things. He was a valiant soldier, loving and dedicated husband, wonderful father, unwavering worker, and most of all the Hierarchy of the family. He was a mischievous, yet devoted brother to his three sisters, always teasing them. He was athletic in school and received many trophies in track. He did as God requires of us and honored his mother and father. He met their needs until their deaths. He was a truly blessed man. He had a dry-witted sense of humor and would often surprise you with a remark that would make your sides hurt from laughing. He found solace in fishing and enjoyed being at the lake any time of day. A good day was a fishing day. He loved watching his children, grandchild, and great grandchildren grow up. He could be child-like, as God would have us to be. While growing up, all of his family lived close together, which gave him a sense of belonging that helped him to become a great leader. He served his country without resolve, joining the 745th MP co. as a very young man. He was excited to join at the prospect of being able to "play" with guns and tanks. He was affectionately called "Tank" by his family members because he was so tough. He served early in many riots as a military policeman, worked to secure the surrendering of the Panama Canal, Desert Storm, and other covert military operations. He received a total of six medals, including the Expert M-16 Rifle and National Service Medal. He also earned the Humanitarian Medal and that's how he will be remembered....a true Humanitarian and humble servant of God who put his family first. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Scott and Sherri Rose, granddaughter Samantha Bennett and her fiancé Matt Davis, great-grandchildren, Jadon Rodriguez, Jett Bennett, Jack Bennett, and two sisters, Jean Kroth and Judy Todd. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sammie Herring, mother, Alma Marie Herring, father Charles F. Herring, sister Patricia Myers, many aunts and uncles and loved friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at Ada Memorial Park Cemetery, Thursday, January 9th at 1:00 pm.
