Charles Madison Ramsey

Charles Madison Ramsey age 90, of Purcell, formerly of Lexington passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in Norman. He was born September 11, 1926 in Oklahoma City. He was the youngest of four children born to John James Ramsey and Lillie Roberta (Phillips) Ramsey. Charles grew up in OKC area and attended the Putnam City Schools, graduating with the class of 1945. While in high school he was a standout athlete, playing baseball, basketball and football. On March 26, 1949 in El Reno, Charles married the love of his life, Dolores Marie Manning. While starting a family they first lived nine years in the OKC area. Then in 1958 they moved to Lexington where he started his own business, "Ramsey's Furniture and Appliance", which he owned and operated for 51 years. Being part of the Lexington community, Charles was a retired Lexington Volunteer Fireman. A past president of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, He and others helped organize the annual Lexington 89er's Celebration and was a member of the Lexington First Baptist Church. In 1978 they moved to Purcell but continued operating his business in Lexington. He was a 32nd degree mason, a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge no.72 and was an India Shriner. Throughout his life, he and his family enjoyed spending time at Lake Texoma, where he loved fishing and relaxing on the weekends. He was preceded in death by: Parents, John "Don" and Lillie Ramsey; One brother, John Ramsey Jr.; Two sisters, Rosemary Smith and Margaret Tavares; One infant son, Charles Madison "Chuckie" Ramsey Jr. He is survived by: Wife of 67 years, Dolores Ramsey of the home; Five children, Delinda Baxter and husband Billy of Breese, IL. Robyn Ramsey of Norman, Debra Davis and husband Daniel of Las Vegas, NV. Deanne Givens of Norman, Craig Ramsey and wife Tammy of Purcell. One brother-in-law, Jack Manning and wife Judy of Moore, Seven grandchildren, Haley Metcalf, Carey Baxter, Katelyn Davis, Joshua Givens, April Ramsey, Christen Knapple and Dylan Ramsey. Six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral Services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel, Purcell, OK. Burial will be 4:00 P.M., at Memorial Park Cemetery, OKC.
