Charley Bill Cheatwood

Bill Cheatwood, age 93, of Lexington passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025. Charley Bill Cheatwood was born on January 14, 1932 in Lexington, Oklahoma, the ninth of ten children born to William Clarence Cheatwood and Dora May (Wilmette) Cheatwood. He was raised east of Lexington and that is where he attended school through the 11th grade. Bill then answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. He began his military service being stationed at Fort Sill, before being deployed to serve in the Korean Conflict. Bill was a proud patriot who served his country both faithfully and honorably! Before going to Korea he married the love of his life, Betty Jean Cheatwood. They made their home in Lexington where they raised two children, son Billy and daughter Marsha. Bill was driven and dedicated to working hard every single day. He worked for various lumber companies including, Billingsley and Pearson’s Lumber, before he began working at T.H. Rogers from which he retired after more than twenty-five years. Even in his retirement, it was evident that Bill never truly retired. He loved to work on his farm, whether it was working cattle, building fences, or maintaining everything. He was always up to something! Bill and Betty were both servant-hearted and truly took great joy in caring for others. They worked together and took care of the Chappel Hill Cemetery, located East of Lexington, for several years. In his free time, Bill loved to fish, camp, and visit relatives. He was very loving, caring, and genuine, but he also liked to pester and had his fair share of fun! Bill had such a sweet charisma and was always easy going. He was a man of great faith, and his love for Jesus was truly evident in everything he did! Bill was truly a one-of-a-kind man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him! He was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Betty Cheatwood; his parents, William and Dora Cheatwood; Siblings Earnest (Bodie) Cheatwood, Grace Carr, Roy Cheatwood, Mable Curry, Dearl Cheatwood, Louis Cheatwood, Joe Cheatwood, Garlin Cheatwood and granddaughter, Rachel Rothner. Bill is survived by: his daughter, Marsha Tirey of Norman; son, Billy Cheatwood and wife Fonda of Empire; brother, Melvin Cheatwood and wife Juanita of Lexington; 4 grandchildren, Chris Bartlett, Michelle Bartlett, Ryan Dymond, and Blake Cheatwood; 4 great-grandchildren, Clayton Bartlett, Caden Dymond, Kyleigh Dymond, Daxton Dymond, and a host of family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Little’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Chappel Hill Cemetery, located East of Lexington. www.wilsonlittle.com
