Cindy Baker

Lucinda "Cindy" Denise Baker of Wayne, Oklahoma passed away surrounded by her family on October 23, 2022 in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 66 years old. Cindy was born November 29th, 1955 in Seminole Oklahoma, to Johnny Walter (J.W.) Baker, and Anna (Clagg) Baker. She graduated from Purcell High School in 1974 where she was active in Pep Club, Rainbow Girls, and Future Homemakers of America. She received the Golden Thimble Award for her sewing abilities. She was an active member of the Purcell First Baptist Church, and loved going to church. She attended college at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of The Eastern Star. She moved to Texas to be the General Manager for an executive hotel group, opening and managing the first all-suite hotels in Dallas and Austin. Because of her love of travel and serving others, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines, which would be her career for the next 25 years. During this time, she traveled extensively for work and pleasure, taking her daughter and family on trips all over the United States, including Hawaii, as well as Mexico, British Columbia, Korea, London, and a week in Paris with her mother. While living in Austin, she met Gary Charlton and they had one child, Elisabeth Baker - Charlton. Cindy was generous, creative, and tenacious. She loved entertaining, shopping, cooking, and gardening. She had an eye for design and fashion, and loved flowers, animals, reading, and movies-particularly rom-coms. She had many talents, but the greatest of them was making her loved ones feel special. She had a knack for tracking down that elusive item someone needed for their home or wardrobe. She was generous to a fault with her time, talents and money. In talking with family and friends, there are countless stories of good times and adventures, and how loyal and steadfast Cindy was to the people she loved, both in good times and bad. She loved fiercely and felt deeply, and will be missed forever. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, JW. She is survived by her mother, Anna Baker and Delbert Morrison; her daughter Elisabeth; sisters Lynda Baker, Lisa Baker and Kelly; nephew Jason Baker and Ashley; nieces Scarlett Tague and Mark, and Hilary Ross and Matt; along with great nieces and nephews, Jasey, Haze, Rhett, Hollace, and Taos; a beloved aunt, Lillian Murray; and many cousins and lifelong friends, including Terrye Jones- Dewey, Carolyn Clark-Ernst, and Terri Sizemore. A celebration of Cindy's life will be held Thursday October 27th at 2:00pm at Little's Chapel, Wilson-Little Purcell. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wings Foundation (wingsfoundation.com), First Baptist Church of Purcell, or the charity of your choice.
