Clayton Dennis Colley

Clayton Dennis Colley age 82 of Washington passed away at his home on March 14, 2025. Clayton was born on March 21, 1942 in Oquawka, Illinois to Gordon James Colley and Ida Louise Colley (Nelson). He grew up there and attended school until he left to join the United States Navy. He served for three years, and joined the reserves for three more. While deployed he was stationed in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam as a machinist mate. After leaving the military he worked on tug boats in the Mississippi River, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas while he worked in construction. He met a young lady in Illinois named Susan Kay Brown. They fell in love and were married on February 4, 1972 in Gladstone, IL before Health issues caused him to join the oil field workforce. The oil field work led the young couple to Oklahoma and they’ve called it home ever since, spending 40+ years in Washington, OK. Clayton worked for the McClain Co. Sheriff’s Dept as a transport deputy which inspired him to study criminology and justice Science at Rose State College for two years. He had a passion for helping youth going through a tough time in life. He volunteered for CASA for many years and was proud of the work he did there, and the difference he made for Families. Clayton had a heart for others and enjoyed fixing up old bikes for kids in town to ride (every kid should have a bike). In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, caring for animals (some people swore he could speak to them), and recently he liked attending auctions and flea markets to look for good deals and interesting finds. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, and advocate who will be dearly missed. He influenced generations of people blood or not. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Colley and Ida Brown, and his siblings Jim Colley, Joe Colley, Charles Colley, Peggy Venard, and Ruby Miller. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Susan Colley. His children, Stacie Paulin, Jeremy Colley and Shandie Davis as well as his two oldest children Danette Preston, and Denise Trudeau. His grandchildren Brett Davis, Kaylee Davis, Taiden Craig, and and great grandsons Daniel Bryant, and Josiah Davis. www.wilsonlittle.com
