D.C. "Cliff" Shockey

D.C. "Cliff" Shockey age 88 of Lexington, passed away Monday, September 03, 2012 at the Lexington Nursing Home. He was born on April 24, 1924 near Lexington. Cliff was the 4th son of five born to William Albert Shockey and Lora Ann (Bond) Shockey. Cliff grew up on a farm east of Lexington near the Corbett community and attended the Valley Grove School. On August 4, 1951 in Norman, OK, Cliff married the love of his life, Hazel Marie Morrison. They made their home on the Shockey family farm east of Lexington where they raised three children and Cliff farmed and raised cattle. In his earlier years while his children were growing up, Cliff had other jobs including farming. For five years he drove a Lexington school bus and seven years he worked at Ken's Red and White Grocery Store in Purcell. In 1970 he went to work for the University of Oklahoma where he worked as a carpenter and Tile Mason until he retired in 1985. Cliff was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith. He was an active and faithful member of the Corbett Baptist Church from 1933-1996 and a member of the Lexington Baptist Church from 1996 until his death. Throughout his life, Cliff enjoyed gardening, taking family vacations and traveling. He will be remembered as wonderful husband and father, a loving grandfather, a special brother and uncle. And a great friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by: Parents: William and Lora Shockey Three brothers: Harlie, Russell and Rev. Bill Shockey Grandson: Kevin Michael Gwin He is survived by: Wife: Hazel Shockey of the home in Lexington Son: Alan Shockey and wife Susie of Ada 2 Daughters: Beverly Rambo and husband Johnny of Ada Andrea Romine and husband Ray of Lexington Brother: Olen Shockey and wife Frances of Eltopia, Washington Sister-in-law: Nora Shockey of Lebanon, Oregon 10 grandchildren: Catherine and Randy Ellis of Byars Emily and James Schreiber of Ada Brandi and Jeremy Rice of OKC Brock Mann of Edmond Nathan and Tessa Gwin of Noble Natalie and Brian Hughes of Ada Nic and Leigh Gwin of Purcell Addison and Dylan Zelker of Virginia Beach, VA Ben and Fleshia Romine of Fairbanks, Alaska Logan Romine of Justin, TX 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Lexington, OK. Interment will be at the Lexington Cemetery. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief Fund.
