Danny Allen Conn

Danny Allen Conn age 56 of Newcastle, passed away April 1, 2018 at his home after a long battle with liver cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Denzil Conn; his mother, Marion Haugen; his stepfather, Ed Haugen; his grandparents, his nephew, Timothy Calmes and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Pam Conn; his daughters, Amy Conn and Sarah Bryant and her husband Shane; his grandchildren, Gabe and Lexi Bryant; his sister, Cindy Swinney; his nephews, Jeff Conn, and Kirk Calmes; his uncle, Dean Brateng and wife Pat, his aunt, Bea Harvill, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan was born December 3, 1961 in Maryville, MO to Denzil Franklin Conn and Marion Catherine (Brateng) Conn. Dan grew up in Wannaska, MN where he ice fished, hunted, rode snowmobiles, motorcycles and played hockey. After high school, Dan joined the Army Reserves, during which time he worked at the spaghetti factory, also as an electrician's helper, on a dairy farm and other misc. jobs. When jobs became scarce he headed to Oklahoma for the oil boom, where he worked on rigs. Then in 1982 when he was 20 years old, he was hired as a temporary fill-in while an employee was on vacation. Because of his excellent work ethic and attention to details, the boss fired the employee and hired Dan. Eventually he was put in a suit and trained to speak in front of large crowds to sell air cleaners. Dan was a success and the business was booming, but Dan preferred his overalls. When the boss died suddenly, Dan was offered the business, so he bought it and continued until 2011 when he was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis from Hepatitis C. Throughout the years he loved fishing trips to Canada with his stepdad, Ed Haugen, and nephew Jeff Conn. Dan enjoyed working on engines and detailing his vehicles and motorcycles. He was a Minnesota Viking fan and the occasional KC Chiefs fan. He and his family went to many OKC Blazer hockey games, camping trips, vacations and trips to visit family in Missouri and Minnesota. In 2008, Dan and Pam purchased a lake place in Sulphur, OK, not far from the Platt National Park they had frequented as the girls were growing up. Dan and Pam spent every weekend they could down there, driving the golf cart around, watching movies, going out on the boat, being mesmerized by the fire, and listening to Hank Jr. Dan was funny, so annoyingly funny that he probably planned the whole dying on April fool's Day thing in advance. Dan was a man's man! He could charm a wall and was spoken highly of by all that knew him. He was an amazing guy who could fix anything and name the artist of any rock song on the spot. He had extensive knowledge concerning history, guns, cars, politics, football, hunting, fishing, etc. You name it, he knew it. He had integrity, compassion, character, wisdom, knowledge, charisma, and a ridiculous sense of humor. He was also freakishly strong and he never met a stranger. If you ever had a conversation with Dan, you always walked away feeling good about yourself. He was a good husband to Pam and a loving father to Amy and Sarah. Dan had 1 million friends and he wasn't even on Facebook. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Eagle Heights Church, 12001 S. Portland, OKC. Interment will be at Newcastle Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
