David Lee Barger

David Barger, age 84, of Purcell entered into Heaven’s gates on January 8, 2025. David Lee Barger was born on July 31, 1940 in Purcell, Oklahoma, the oldest of two children born to Chester Lee Barger and Gladys Marie (Milford) Barger. Although he was born in Purcell, he was primarily raised in Maysville where he attended school and graduated with the Warrior Class of 1958. Shortly after graduating high school, David decided to further his education by attending East Central University in Ada. While there he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Education. He also acquired an additional 120 college credit hours from various schools to add to his educational experiences and background. To put it simply, David was a jack-of-all-trades and a man of many talents. He was extremely driven and dedicated to working hard in every position he found himself in. David was a band director for nearly 10 years in the following places- Maud, Elmore City, Cherokee, and Rocky Ford Colorado. He was a musician all his life, and this passion led him to play in community bands as well! David additionally worked in the banking industry. In 1976 he was presented with the opportunity to become a Vice President of the Mortgage Department at the First American Bank in Purcell, and a little while later he served as a Vice President at American Exchange Bank in Norman. Eventually in 1984, David went to work alongside his sons, Cliff and Scott, at Clifford Appraisals. He worked there as a real estate appraiser for nearly 40 years before eventually retiring in January of 2024. In his free time, David enjoyed gardening and being an active member in various civic clubs. He had a great sense of humor, that was infectious to everyone around him. David was whole-heartedly devoted to his family; Barbara, his loving wife, truly was the light of his life! More than anything, David was a faithful servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an ordained minister in the Church of Christ and a highly respected bible school teacher. He preached the gospel boldly, and his love for Jesus was evident in everything he did. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and a true friend. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by: his parents, Chester and Marie Barger. David is survived by: his loving wife, Barbara Barger; sons, Clifford Barger and wife Lauren of Norman, and Scott Barger also of Norman; daughter, Jancy Scott and husband Dave of Edmond; sister, Linda Anderson of Purcell; 5 grandchildren, Elise, Ava, Cassandra, Lillian, and Tyler; 2 great-grandchildren, Easton and Juniper, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Westside Church of Christ in Norman. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. www.wilsonlittle.com
