Eulogy for Don Ray Womack Today we celebrate the life of Don Ray Womack — a husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence filled every room with humor, warmth, and love. Don passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on August 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of family devotion, hard work, and countless cherished memories. Born January 24, 1940, in Lexington, Oklahoma, Don was the ninth of ten children born to Sam and Hazel Womack. Growing up in a big family taught him early on the value of grit, loyalty, and humor. He began school in Lexington, later moving to Norman where he attended high school. As a teenager, he worked alongside his brothers, Iman and Buck, fixing radiators — a glimpse of the work ethic that would carry him through his life. In 1961, by chance, Don reconnected with an old friend, Lola Margaret Duffy. What began as a friendship quickly grew into a love story that lasted more than six decades. Just three months later, they were married on December 15, 1961, at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Together Don and Margaret raised three boys — Don Jr., Mark, and Chris. To Don, they weren’t just Don, Mark, and Chris — they were “Bosco, Mark Dana, and Freckles.” Don had a gift for nicknames, often branding friends and family with monikers that stuck for life. It was his way of showing love — a small touch of humor that made people feel uniquely special. Don poured his heart into his work as the owner and operator of Commercial Radiator Company in Oklahoma City and later, Womack Auto Sales in Norman. His business was more than just a livelihood; it was a way of connecting with people and helping those in need. Customers weren’t just transactions to him — they became friends. He thrived in those relationships, and many left his lot not only with a car, but with a memory of Don’s compassion and generosity. Outside of work, Don lived life to the fullest. He loved taking his family boating at the lake, cruising the open road on his motorcycle, and spending Friday nights at the stock car races at the fairgrounds. Don found joy in the simple things: a day on the water, the thrill of the track, but most often in time spent with family. One of Don’s greatest joys came later in life when he became “Papa.” His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his world. Grandkids Ashley, Chelsey, Madyson, Whitney, Caleb, and Great Grandkids Caroline and Quinn — each held a piece of his heart. His pride in them was immeasurable, and he never missed a chance to hold them or sit next to them patting them affectionately. Don is reunited in heaven with his parents, Sam and Hazel, his nine siblings, and his beloved daughter-in-law, Donna. Here on earth, his legacy lives on through his wife of 63 years, Margaret, his boys Bosco, Mark, and Chris, his daughters-in-law Brenda, Sherri, and Cyndi, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Today, as we say goodbye, let us remember Don not with sadness but with gratitude — for the laughter he brought, the lessons he taught, and the love he so freely gave. His spirit will continue to live on in every story we tell, every laugh we share, and every moment we remember him.
