Donald Bennett Sudbery

Don Sudbery, age 63 of Newcastle, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Donald Bennett Sudbery was born October 30, 1958 in Camden, AR, the 2nd of 3 sons born to Edward Lee and Alma Venita (Callaway) Sudbery. The son of a preacher, Don moved often throughout his childhood. He graduated from Lee Academy high school in 1977. Don attended Quachita Baptist University, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Education. While attending school there, he played football and baseball with honors. He married young, and welcomed a daughter, Brooke. Don began his coaching and teaching career in Arkansas. By chance, through the suggestion of some mutual friends, he met Rebecca Ann Gore. They were the perfect couple. Don married Rebecca, and her daughter, Lori, and two families became one. Don started working in pharmaceuticals, and they made their home in Dallas for a few years. But his heart was in coaching, and they returned to Oklahoma. Don coached football at Duncan and Newcastle, before taking a job in Bridge Creek. He retired in 2019. When he wasn't working, you would probably find him playing the piano, riding his motorcycle, fishing, shooting his guns and playing golf. Don also had a love for animals. He cherished Rebecca, his girls and was a proud Papa to Jackson, Noah, Eden, Reid, Asa, Asher, Emery, and Grady. Don's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, and very rarely missed a game or an activity. He was a loving uncle to Casey, Andrew, and Samantha. He was admired and adored by all five of his sisters in law. Don was known for his ability to make people laugh and feel better about themselves. His encouragement and motivation was shown throughout his career with his loved ones, his students, his athletes, and his employees. He will be remembered for his big smile, laugh, and his thoughtfulness for others. Don was a man of great faith, and attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by: his parents, Edward and Alma Venita Sudbery and his brother, Steve Sudbery. Don is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Rebecca Sudbery of the home; children, Brooke Sudbery Booker and husband Chris of Jonesboro, AR and Lori Smith and husband Shawn of The Village, OKC; Brother, Bill Sudbery and wife Melissa of Kenner, LA; proud Papa to Jackson, Noah, Eden, Reid, Asa, Asher, Emery, and Grady. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial is scheduled for 10:00 A.M.
