Dr. William David Glover DVM

William David Glover blissfully passed from this life to the next on Sunday, October 25, 2015. David was born on May 20, 1953 in Holdenville, OK to W.C. (Cloyce) and Patsy Glover. Seven years later he became a big brother for the first time when sister Kim was born and 2 years after, along came littlest sister Kerri. The family moved to Purcell when David was in the 5th grade and the heart of a Dragon was born. From an early age, he excelled in sports earning many awards and trophies in baseball, football, basketball and track. He was a fierce competitor and especially liked the hard contact of football which earned him a scholarship to Wichita State University. However, home was never far from his mind and he returned to Oklahoma to attend his beloved OU where he had spent many a Saturday afternoon watching games from the south end zone with his friends. After that brief and unspectacular semester where he reasoned there was no need to let school interfere with his education, he decided it was time to get serious; he packed up and became a Cowboy. Stillwater became his new home where he graduated with the OSU Class of 1981 as a Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine. David worked with and was mentored by many veterinarians he credited for helping him along in his career. He specialized for a time in large animals, running a mobile practice both near and far out of the Guthrie area. In 1995 he built his own clinic, Sooner Animal Hospital on Sooner Road in Edmond. He was still taking care of dogs and cats (but no reptiles!) until very recently. His patients and their owners will miss his straight talk and blunt but caring bedside manner. David has been characterized as a great vet, and an honorable man with a crusty heart of gold. He was also called grumpy, stubborn, witty, ornery and endearing, but everyone who knew him well knew it was only that hard outer shell that hid the sensitive, deeply faithful, and sincerely genuine man so many called friend. He was simply a character and he was truly one of a kind. Ten years ago, David went to the Purcell high school reunion and as luck would have it, so did Mary Stephens. It couldn't have been love at first sight; it had been over 40 years since they first met. Luckily, the passage of time, life and experience had finally taught them both what happiness really was. They married on September 24, 2011 surrounded by their families. In addition to his wife Mary, David leaves behind his son William Cody Glover (Toni Simon), and grandson William Pake Glover, of Guthrie; his step-son Ryan (Lindsey) Morphew of Norman, and his step-daughter Candace (Diamond) Wheeler of Montreal, Canada. He also leaves sisters, Kim (Bill) Cummings, Kerri (Terry) Howell; nieces Tara (Kevin) Turner and Lexi Cummings, nephews BJ (Jaime) Cummings, Tyler Cummings, Justin Howell, and Andrew Cummings; great nephews Chase Johnson and Liam Cummings and great niece Emerson Turner. David is also survived by great-aunt Bertha Bruton, maternal aunts Avanell McFerren and Rhonda Monroe; paternal uncle Kenneth (Carole) Glover, and paternal aunt Evelyn (Everett) Ohls. His extended family also includes numerous cousins scattered across the state of Oklahoma and beyond. Finally, David leaves behind his beloved long-time friends and companions: his Jack Russell Jay and his Miniature Australian Shepherd Snickers. A viewing and visitation with the family will be at the Wilson Little Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8. Services for David are scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Purcell First Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow at Purcell's Hillside Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Integris Hospice House staff for the kind and loving care they provided David and his loved ones.
