Edna Phillips

Edna Phillips, age 82 of Choctaw, passed away Saturday September 11, 2021. Edna Regena Long was born at home on March 9, 1939 in Eola, Garvin County, OK, the 5th of 7 children born to Emery Winford Long and Edith Edna (Johnson) Long (trucker and homemaker respectively). She spent her early years in the Garvin County area and last attended school in Maysville. Edna married young to Calvin Phillips on October 8, 1955 but was widowed a short 6 years later. Edna worked hard to provide for her children, filling the role of both mother and father. Her first paid job was baking pies for a local restaurant. Her occupations included professional seamstress, waitress, cook, mobile home sales where she received many awards for sales and customer satisfaction, and last AOL where again she earned many awards and enjoyed her first paid vacation before retiring. She was the proud mother of 7 children: daughters, Regina, Judy, and Gayla, and sons, Calvin Jr., Gary, Robert and Scott. She was a gifted artist, enjoyed oil painting and singing, and she loved Gene Autry songs. She sewed, knitted and crocheted and shared her many talents with family and friends. She also enjoyed restoring neglected cast iron cookware and was an avid member of an internet Cast Iron Club. She was an excellent cook and will forever be remembered for her pies, beans and skillet cornbread. She was a woman of great faith and longtime member of the Church of Christ. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate her life and the fact that she is at peace. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Calvin Phillips Sr.; parents, Emery Long and Edith Pickel; siblings, George Long, Noel Long, Rance Long, Margarette Lloyd and Frances Bradley, a great granddaughter and two great grandsons. Edna is survived by: her children, Regina Cooper and husband Darryl of La Marque, TX, Calvin Phillips Jr. and wife Loritha of Ada, OK, Judy Jacob and husband Jake of Choctaw, OK, Gary Phillips of Lexington, OK, Gayla Coykendall and husband Jeff of Ponca City, OK, Bobby Phillips and wife Misty of Yukon, OK, and Scott Maslar and wife Jenai of OKC, OK; Sister, supporter and best friend, Emilea Moring and husband Eathel of Purcell, OK; 14 grandchildren, Candance Music, Melissa Vancoevering, Earl Music, Brandi Luce, Calvin Phillips III, Callie Brown, Tandi Wooten, Christopher Coykendall, Jason Coykendall, Dylan Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Kinsley Maslar, Sadie Maslar and Dagan Maslar; 20 great grandchildren, Pia Music, Jimi Music, Kayleigh Vancoevering, Dalton Vancoevering, Raiden Vancoevering, Chasity Renchen, Brian Music, Victoria Luce, Faith Luce, Seth Luce, Alexandria Phillips, Vadell Phillips, Calvin Phillips IV, Tristan Phillips, Brittlie Brown, Cooper Brown, Zander Wooten and Caden Coykendall; two sisters-in- law, Imogene Green and Janelle McKee; two brothers-in-law Jimmy Phillips and David Phillips; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
