J.D. Mooneyham

J.D. Mooneyham age 87 of Norman, passed away at his home on August 6, 2025. James Darrell Mooneyham was born to Ruth Bray (Daily) on April 19, 1938 in Keota, Oklahoma. His mother moved the family to the Wayne area where J.D. attended school, and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1956. On a trip to California visiting his family in Oakland, he met a young lady named Lucy Mae Herron. The two hit it off and were married on June 12, 1958 in Madera, California. They began their family and traveled back and forth between California and Oklahoma following work until he got a job at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City. He worked there as an aircraft electrician for over 30 years until retiring. During his free time, he enjoyed working on cars and piddling on different projects-putting his handy man skills to good use. He loved watching OU athletics, and taking camping trips in the mountains. Above all else he loved his family; J.D. cherished time spent with his kids and grandkids. J.D. was a beloved husband, father, and papa who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents Otis Bray and Ruth Bray. His daughter Barbara Mooneyham, his brother Bobby Beaver, and his granddaughter Candace Dohm. J.D. is survived by his wife Lucille Mooneyham of Norman. His daughter Cynthia Curry and husband Gary of Norman. His brothers Kenny Herron and wife Beth of OKC, Jerry Herron and wife Carol of Noble, and his nephew Gary McGehee and wife Ruth of Lexington. His grandchildren Julie Baublit and husband Randy of Norman, Melissa Dodson and husband Bruce of Moore, Nina Mahaffey and Jesse O’Neal of Norman, and Jammy Mahaffey and wife Melissa of Shawnee. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren Madison and Preston Baublit, Braydon, Reece, and Mikayla Dodson, Dayson Mooneyham, Caeden Mahaffey, Bryson Ruckman, Jammy, Lily, Daniel, and Elizabeth Mahaffey and one great great grandchild Sloane Dodson. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 12, 2025 at Little’s Chapel, Wilson-Little Purcell. Viewing will be held Monday from 9:00am to 7:00pm
