Janice Kay Haswell

Janice Kay (Wilson) Haswell entered heaven on June 28, 2026. Janice was born on February 19, 1944 to Orville Leon (O.L.) & Mary Gladys (Layton) Wilson. She was a tiny baby girl born to a family of three boys passionate about race cars. Her parents were faithful to take their family to church at First Baptist Moore where she surrendered her life to Christ on March 16, 1952 at the age of 8. Janice showed great faithfulness to her relationship with Jesus through daily Bible reading and prayer and regular church attendance. She served as a church organist for several congregations through her lifetime. She most recently was a member of Northeast Baptist Church in Norman. Janice attended Moore Public Schools where she met this tall dark-haired man named Glenn Haswell that later won her heart. After high school graduation, Janice went to Oklahoma Baptist University to earn a secretarial certificate. After two years, she went to Central State to be near Glenn. They were married on June 10, 1966. They would spend over 40 years of their lives in education. She began teaching kindergarten and later moved to teaching high school typing and business classes. As computers began to emerge in schools, she embraced the technology. She taught computers and established computer networks in schools in which she worked. Janice loved sports. She grew up in a family of college football fans and she shared that love through Saturday family tailgates. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports but she especially loved NBA basketball, particularly the OKC Thunder. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, of 50 years and her parents as well as two brothers, Leon and Leroy Wilson. She is survived by her daughter, Glenne’ Whisenhunt and her husband Tim. Her son, Matthew Haswell and wife Michelle. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren that brought delight and excitement to her latter years. Her grandchildren include Clay Whisenhunt and wife Felicia, Janae Hofeld and husband, Caleb, Ryan, Kaytlynn, Hallee, and Oaklee Haswell and one great-granddaughter, Baker Hofeld. She also leaves behind one brother, Larry Wilson and his wife Sharon, sister-in-law Sharolyn Wilson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have many close friends that will miss her including her lifelong friend, Karen Stewart. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Northeast Baptist Church, 905 E. Rock Creek Rd, Norman, OK, 73071. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery.
