John Edgar Bourquin

John Edgar Bourquin, 88, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell. John was born on December 16, 1930, in Purcell, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of three children born to Edgar Frederick Bourquin and Annie Lynn (Allcorn) Bourquin. John grew up in Purcell, attended Purcell Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1948. He also married, raised a family and lived his entire life in his home town of Purcell. On May 10, 1952, John married Wanda M. Madden, the love of his life. Soon after their marriage, John was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Rolla, Missouri, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged two years later and returned to Purcell, where he and Wanda raised their five children. For eleven years, John farmed and drove Purcell Public School buses before starting a new civil service career at Tinker Air Force Base as a machinist in 1965 until his retirement in 1992 after 26 years of service. While working full-time, John continued farming, raising livestock and attending his children's school activities as a proud band, 4-H and FFA parent. John was a faithful Christian and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Purcell. John and Wanda were active in the fundraising and the dedication of the new Purcell Falls Creek cabin while teaching an Adult Sunday School class. In his spare time, John enjoyed growing large vegetable gardens, fishing farm ponds and woodworking. He was preceded in death by: Parents, Edgar and Annie Bourquin, Wife, Wanda Bourquin on Dec. 18, 2015, One son, Donnie Bourquin, One grandson, Trey Bourquin, One brother, Leslie Bourquin, One sister, Ruth Lynn. He is survived by: Four children, Bonnie Vculek and husband Greg of Waukomis, OK, Barbara Winans and husband Julius of Boca Raton, FL, Leslie Bourquin and wife Deepa of Mason, Michigan, John Bourquin II and wife Tammy of Purcell. Eight grandchildren, Jacob Wedel, Teddie Vculek, Aimee Vculek, Sandi Ashley, Elizabeth Bauer, Holly Burrus, Andy Bourquin and Talley Bourquin. 16 great grandchildren, Lilly, Anakin, Journey, T.J., Colbie, Sammie, Landon, Logan, Stetson, Sawyer, Nikolaus, Sheyenne, Hailey, McKenzie, Jace and Sterling. Also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Memorials may be sent to Purcell First Baptist Church Falls Creek Fund (or) to 4RKids Capital Campaign of Enid, Oklahoma.
