Johnny Alvin Terrell

Johnny Alvin Terrell, age 86, of Lexington peacefully passed away Friday, December 30th surrounded by his family. John was born January 26, 1936 in Walters, Oklahoma to John Mascot Terrell and Nancy Rachel (Lucas) Terrell. He was the 3rd of 5 children born to the couple and the only son. John attended high school in Wheeler Texas. Shortly after graduation, John joined the Army National Guard. While home from service, he met a pretty young woman working at the Dairy Queen. He was so intrigued with her that he walked by the Dairy Queen over and over just trying to get her attention. One day, that pretty lady noticed him and spoke to him and the rest is history. John married the love of his life and his best friend, Nellie "Joyce" Miller on April 3, 1955. The two were happily married for 67 years and nine months. Together the couple raised 4 amazing children; Johnny, Cathy, Debbie and Karen. John was loyal and worked as a Water and Lab Technician for the City of Lexington for 23 years. He made such an impression that upon retiring from the City of Lexington on July 1, 1997 it was proclaimed "John Terrell Day" by city personnel. John truly had a green thumb; he always had an immaculate yard and loved gardening. He had the most beautiful garden and raised the best vegetables. He loved fishing, tent camping, and searching for arrowheads and artifacts in Arizona. John absolutely cherished time spent with his men's Sunday School Class or as he liked to call it, "The Ole Geezers". John is preceded in death by his daughter, Baby Girl Terrell; his parents, John and Rachel Terrell; his sisters, Omega Reid and Marie Wilson; his daughter in law, Patrcia Terrell; and his son in law, Eddie Pace. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Terrell of the home; his son, Johnny Terrell of Norman; his daughters, Cathy Scribner and husband Brian of Healdton, Debbie Pace of Lexington, Karen Haley and husband Timothy of Purcell; his sisters, Jo Strailey of Prescott, Az, and Edith Thornton and husband Charlie of Lamesa, Tx; 8 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, as well as, a host of friends. John was dearly loved and will be missed. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Purcell, Ok.
