Joyce Butler

Joyce Butler age 102 of Purcell, OK passed away on September 16, 2022. Joyce Pauline Tucker was born on March 30, 1920 in Hoyt, Oklahoma, 1 of 13 children born to J.R. Tucker and Edna Pearl Tucker (Brown). Joyce grew up in the Beaver Mountain Community near Whitefield, Oklahoma. She met a young man named James Oliver Butler at church and they quickly fell in love and were married on November 6, 1937. Oliver was a military man, serving in the United States Army, which lead them to live in several places over the years including California before they finally settled in San Marcos, Texas. During her husband's military years, Joyce took great pride in being a devoted mother to her four children and a diligent homemaker. After losing her husband in 1971, Joyce joined the work force and was employed at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. She retired some years later in the mid-1980s as a dorm mother. Joyce made her home in Texas until April of 2017 when she moved to Purcell to be near her son Jerry. She was a faithful member of the Baptist church and was a woman of great faith. She was a proud centenarian who was caring and kind, with a sweet disposition loved by all who came to know her. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents J.R. and Edna Tucker, her husband Oliver Butler, her daughter Patsy Noel, her son Wade Butler, and her granddaughter Cathy Strohmeyer. She is survived by her brother Chesterfield Tucker of Duncan, OK, her sons Jerry Butler and wife Elaine of Purcell, OK and Billy Butler and wife Pat of New Braunfels, TX. Her grandchildren, Carrie Kirkes and husband Gerald of Clayton, OK, Natalie Megerson and husband Steve of San Marcos, TX, and Chelsie Howard and husband Russell of San Marcos, TX. Her great grandchildren, Ashley Edmonson, Cole Dickinson, Heather Strohmeyer, Amanda Glenn, Tate Megerson, Maddie Megerson, Mack Megerson, Austin Howard, and Jack Howard. She also leaves behind great great grandchildren, Adikye, Savayah, Easton, Tanner, and Scout.
