Joyce Lavelle Sweetman

Joyce Lavelle Sweetman, age 83 of Noble, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at Norman Regional Hospital. Joyce was born March 25, 1936 near Rosedale, OK. She was the oldest of seven children born to William Albert Richardson and Dicie Irene (Carver) Richardson. Joyce grew up in Pauls Valley and graduated with the class of 1954. On October 16, 1954 in Maysville, Joyce married the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Sweetman. Together they raised three children, Mike, Dana and Laurie. Joyce and Jimmy lived in various towns and states for the first few years of their marriage. In 1965 they moved to the Noble area where they continued raising their children and lived the remainder of their lives. Joyce worked hard primarily as a wife, mother and homemaker. However she did work a short time for the Noble Public Schools and was an election volunteer for Cleveland County. Joyce was a faithful Christian and a member of the Maguire Baptist Church for over 50 years. For a long time she taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School. She loved going to church, reading her bible and praying. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed feeding her birds, gardening, cooking, canning and sewing. Most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her family and while her grandchildren were young she especially enjoyed babysitting them. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, she was a special sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by: Parents, William and Dicie Richardson, Husband, Jimmy Sweetman Nov. 12, 2013. Brother, Jerry Richardson. She is survived by: One son, Mike Sweetman and wife Mia of Ponca City, Two daughters, Dana Perry and husband Richard of Noble, Laurie Mercer and husband Jim of Moore. Three brothers, Johnny Richardson and wife Jeanette of Pauls Valley, Larry Richardson and wife Susie of Moore, Rickey Richardson and wife Angie of Norman, Two sisters, Gloria Prince and husband Doug of Chickasha, Linda Jensen of Noble. Eight grandchildren, Kyle Perry, Tyler Perry and wife Taylor, Emily Dvorak and husband Jacob, Natalie Mercer, Anjali Sweetman, Sara Mercer, Ian Sweetman and Nathan Sweetman. Also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
