Linnie Mae Smith

Linnie Mae Smith age 93 formerly of Purcell, passed away in Shawnee, OK on July 29, 2024. Linnie Mae Fuson was born to Thomas Fuson and Agnes Fuson (Folsom) on June 3, 1931 in Tishomingo, OK. Growing up, she attended the Carter Seminary Indian Boarding School in Ardmore, and then graduated from Chilocco Indian Ag School in Newkirk. Linnie met a young service man named Kenneth “Don” Smith, they quickly fell in love and were married on July 24, 1953 in Pauls Valley. The young couple made their home in Purcell where they raised their children. Linnie was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her time to making a home full of love and warmth for her family. She was known for her great sense of humor and optimism. She was no stranger to hard times and overcame many challenges in life, but always acknowledged God’s helping hand by telling everyone “I’m blessed”. Linnie enjoyed the holidays and always looked forward to family Halloween parties. She was a gifted seamstress, gardener, and cook, known for her homemade fried chicken. Linnie was also an avid football fan, and loved chasing her kids and grandkids to their activities. She was a beloved wife, mother, and granny who always saw the good in everyone and will be dearly missed. Linnie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Agnes Fuson, her husband of 56 years, Kenneth “Don” Smith, and her son, Donald Lynn Smith. Her siblings Lenora Hobbs, Agnes Marie Fuson Hobbs, Annabelle King, Martha Rose Morehead, Gus Fuson, Virgil “Tish” Fuson, an infant brother, and her great grandson Case Houston Smith. She is survived by her children Cindy Lantz and husband Alan of Shawnee, Kenny Smith and wife Robin of Blanchard, and Jason Smith and wife Tina of Purcell. Her siblings Ed Fuson and wife Reta of Tishomingo, Tommie Bettis of Durant, Athena Rath of Norman, and Sue Allen and husband Ed of Stonewall. Her grandchildren Melissa Lantz, Adam Lantz, Madison Smith, Carson Smith and wife Caitlin, Conner Smith, step-grandchildren Schyler Yeargin, Kenley Yeargin, and Ashton Yeargin. She also leaves behind great grandchild Caidan Houston Smith, and step-great grandchild Zoe Yeargin. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday August 2, 2024 at Sunray Baptist Church in Purcell, with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
