Mary Alyce Alford

Mary Alyce Alford, age 76 of Purcell, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018. Mary Alyce Hobbs was born August 17, 1941, in Spokane, Washington, the older of two daughters born to Morgan Forbes Hobbs and Winifred Alice (Smith) Hobbs. She was raised primarily in Spokane and attended North Central High School, class of 1959. Mary Alyce met a young service man from Sulphur, OK named Gordon Richards. They were soon married and made their home in Purcell in 1962. They had two children, David Gordon and Shelley Diane. Together they owned and operated Richard's .05 & .10 Store in Purcell for many years. Mary Alyce, by her very nature, was a kind and compassionate person. She returned to school, and obtained her Nurses License, and Masters Degree in Nursing. Dedicating her life to caring for others; Mary Alyce worked primarily in rehabilation in the VA and at OU Medical System. She also spent several years teaching nursing at O.C.C.C. in Okla. City. She later married Truman Alford and welcomed his two children to her family, Kristina and Steven. Mary Alyce enjoyed traveling and experienced many places worldwide. She was crafty, and enjoyed embroidery and needlepoint, and shared many of her creations with family and friends. She was an excellent cook; an animal lover who championed saving wild and stray cats by getting them all spayed. Mary Alyce cherished her family and looked forward to the holidays when she could entertain her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved having them all together. A vibrant and spunky woman, she would quickly share an opinion with anyone who would listen. But she was more so a lady of great class, and a dear friend to many. Mary Alyce was a woman of great faith and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell. She was an active member of the Gladiolus' Garden Club and of the United Methodist Women. She also volunteered in a veteran's literacy program for several years in her retirement. She will be dearly missed! She was preceded in death by: Her parents, Morgan and Winifred Hobbs; Mary Alyce is survived by: Her son, David Richards, DPh. and wife Sondra of Purcell, their children, Steven and Laura Richards, Kennedy and Seth Sheehy, and Alyssa Richards. Her daughter, Shelley Richards Bozarth and husband Troy of Purcell, their children, Paige and Kale Littlefield, Justin and Lizzy Bozarth, and Baylee Bozarth. Her sister, Barbara Meier and husband John of Sequim, WA; Two very special nieces, Amanda Meier of Seattle and Melissa Pietrzak and husband Brian, of Wheaton, IL. Step children, Kristina Giometti,PharmD. and husband Dr. Ron Giometti of Plano, TX, their children, Ronnie, Daniel, Tommy, Luke & Paul. Steven Alford and wife Heather of Albert Lea, MN ; 5 great grandchildren, Cameron and Hunter Richards, Allie & Anna Sheehy, Carter Holden, and a host of other family and friends.
