Mattie Belle Mullins

Mattie Belle Mullins, age 84 of Purcell, passed away Thursday October 11, 2012 at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. Mattie Belle Idleman was born August 13, 1928 in Bryant community, the 8th of 10 children of Lester Ray Idleman and Carrie Mae (Hawkins) Idleman. She attended Bryant and Washington schools. While in high school, Mattie was a standout basketball player and fondly recalled scoring 599 points her senior year. She graduated in 1946. Mattie married her high school sweetheart J.E. Mullins on May 14, 1948 in Purcell. They purchased a farm west of Purcell where together they raised 3 children, son, Bruce and daughters, Kathy and Kris. Mattie was a hard worker and stood side by side with J.E. everyday working on the farm. Mattie loved the Lord and her church, the Union Hill Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed keeping the nursery and she cared for and nurtured many children for more than 50 years. Mattie was very gifted with her hands; she enjoyed sewing, quilting and canning. She was an avid sports fan and especially liked to watch basketball, and in her later years she followed her great-grandchildren in their various activities and sporting events. Mattie was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her! She was preceded in death by: Her husband, J.E. Mullins; Her parents, Lester & Carrie Idleman; 2 sisters, Marie Crabtree & Lena Vaughn and 3 brothers, Loyd Idleman, Rudy Idleman & Frank Idleman. Mattie leaves behind: Her son, Bruce Mullins and wife Debbie of Collinsville, IL; 2 daughters, Kathy Ladlee and husband Ron of Purcell and Kris Mullins of Edmond; Her sister, Fanny Lou Green and husband Bill,of Purcell and Sister-in-law, Dixie Idleman of Purcell; 3 brothers, Tom Idleman and wife Alura of Purcell, Ray Idleman and wife Mary of Slaughtervill and Ted Idleman and wife Jo of Wayne; 6 grandchildren, Shelly Black and husband Travis, Jay Ladlee, Matt Mullins and wife Becky, Stephen Mullins, Amanda Addington and husband Brad and Jonathan Mullins; 8 great grandchildren, Trey, Luke, Nathan, Noah, Woodrow, Stephanie, Denton J. and Chase and new baby Addington due in February, And many other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
