Norma Ward

Norma Jean Ward, age 91 of Purcell, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022. She was born on the family homestead in Pontotoc County on September 28, 1930. She was the 7th of 8 children born to Samuel Lincoln Cox and Velma Margaret (Brecheen) Cox. She married young, at age 16, and was the proud mother of Ed, Roger, Barbara, Marina and Judy. Norma worked mainly as a care giver through out the years. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was never happier than the day she became a grandmother. She was also an avid OKC Thunder and OU Softball fan. Norma was a woman of great faith, a gifted musician, and she shared her many talents whenever called upon. She played the piano, the guitar and bass, and loved to sing. She loved gospel music, bluegrass and the blues. She was a longtime and active member of the Highway Tabernacle Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be dearly missed! She was preceded in death by: her parents, Samuel and Velma Cox; sisters, Ruby Nolan and Ailene Rankin; brothers, Calvin Cox, Erbin Cox and Euell Cox and son-in-law, Dewayne Clifton. Norma is survived by: her boys, Ed Ward of Purcell and Roger Ward and wife Claudia of Moore; daughters, Barbara Ward of Purcell, Marina Clifton of Wayne and Judy Mealman and husband Kenneth of Wayne; sister, Bonnie Richardson of Byars; 11 grandchildren, Douglas Ward of Norman, Regina Griffith and husband Eddie of Lexington, Brian Mealman of Wayne, Sasha Rone and husband Kevin of Yukon, Karasha Ward of Moore, Nathaniel Ward of Moore, Tisha Phipps and husband Scott of Norman, Cody Clifton and wife Hilary of Norman, Chelsea Lawson and husband Tommy of Stratford, Chloe Clifton of Norman and Caleigh Clifton of Norman; 16 great grandchildren, Hannah, Greysen, Levi, McKenzi, Kaden, Kelby, Arthur, Lincoln, Landon, Maverick, Tarren, Ethan, Maddox, Eliana, Arabella and Mykah; 3 great great grandchildren, Juni, Kolton and Brecklen; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
