Oleta Ruth Nelson

Oleta Nelson, age 89 of Lexington, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014. Oleta Ruth Odom was born February 13, 1925 in Sanger, Texas, 1 of 6 children born to Luther Taylor Odom and Dosha Alice (Vaughn) Odom and Ollie Odom. She was raised in Sangar, TX and and attended school in Bolivar, TX, graduating in 1942. Oleta married John Morris McHam on June 21, 1948 in Denton, TX. Oleta was a hard worker and a great provider. She was strong and determined, and her greatest accomplishment was single handedly raising her 8 children; sons, Charles and Tim, daughters Brenda, Marcella, Reba Ann, Vondale, Angela and Sandra. Oleta was also lucky enough to have a mother/grandmother relationship with her extended family the Morris family of Purcell, OK. She lived in various towns in Texas and Oklahoma, before settling in Lexington, OK in 1960. It was here that she later met Vernon Nelson and the two were married in 1997. Oleta loved the Lord and served him faithfully as a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington. She loved attending church functions and looked forward to senior trips. Oleta loved good ole gospel singing. She was spirited and fun loving with a mischievous sense of humor. She enjoyed crafts such as; crochet & quilting. And she never turned down a game of dominos. Oleta cherished her family and leaves a long lasting legacy of daughters, sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her motto was truly exemplified by her life: "Never give up and do the right thing. Trust God for He is faithful". She was preceded in death by: Husbands, John Morris McHam and Vernon Nelson Daughter, Sandra Stark Infant son, Luther Morris McHam Great granddaughter, Abbi Jo McHam Parents, Luther and Dosha Odom Brothers, John Taylor Odom and Franklin Odom Oleta leaves behind: Her children, Brenda Rousey of Norman, OK Marcella Tiger and husband Don of Sapulpa, OK Reba Ann Keffer and husband Paul of Trophy Club, TX Vondale Amend and husband Kenny of Magnolia, TX Angela Ring and husband Ray of Clinton, OK Charles McHam and wife Beverly of Paoli, OK Tim McHam and wife Tammy of Moore, OK Extended family Don and Sue Morris of Purcell, OK Her sister, Barbara Feind and husband Larry of Rabun Gap, GA Two brothers, Lawrence Odom and wife Mary Nan of Arlington, TX and Loy Odom and wife Lynn of Arlington, TX; a son-in-law, John Stark of Purcell; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and hosts of other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Lexington. Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. in Sanger, Texas.
