Richard Rains

Richard Rains age 77 of Purcell, passed away at home on October 26, 2024. Richard was born on September 14, 1947 in Washington, Oklahoma to Blanchard Rains and Ruby Rains (Burns). He grew up in Washington and attended school there, until he transferred to Purcell where he graduated with the Dragon Class of 1967. After high school, he went to work for Western Electric in Oklahoma City. During a union strike at Western, he found employment at Ruby’s Inn & Restaurant. He started in 1974, and was still currently helping with management part time. He treasured the friends and relationships he made at Ruby’s in his 50 years there. After losing his first wife at a young age, he found love with Marilyn Cannon. They were married for 36 years. Once he joined her family he inherited two children- and his first grandchild, not long after their wedding. He cherished Marilyn’s family as his own and loved being and grandpa and great grandpa. Richard kept a good supply of snacks and drinks at the house for the kids to enjoy anytime they visited. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to the business, which often meant he didn’t have much time away for himself. When he did have free time, he enjoyed maintaining a beautiful lawn and well landscaped home, tinkering on projects in his shop, and woodworking. Anything he did was done with perfection, or it wasn’t finished. Richard was a proud patriot, loved America deeply, and always had eagles around in some form or fashion. He was a devoted husband, dad, brother, and grandpa who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Blanchard and Ruby Rains. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Rains of the home. His children Jimmy Cannon and wife Rhonda of Goldsby and Lisa Hendrix and husband Eric of Goldsby. His siblings Robert Rains and wife Donna of Norton, Virginia, Roger Rains and wife Lisa of Carrolton, Texas and Barbara Hardcastle of Purcell. His grandchildren, Kaylin Langford and husband Zack of Weatherford, Addie Clayton and husband Kyle of Goldsby, Jeremy Cannon and wife Sierra of Davis, and Emily Hendrix of Norman. He also leaves behind great grandchildren Tatum Langford, Minor Langford, Ruby Clayton, Isla Clayton, and Owen Clayton. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday October 30, 2024 at Little’s Chapel, Wilson-Little Purcell.
