Rita Jane Thacker

Rita Jane Thacker, age 78 of Yukon, and formerly of Duncan, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Rita Jane Philpott was born February 26, 1943 in Walters, OK, to Hershel Leon Philpott and Gwendolyn Yvonne (Burnaugh) Philpott. She was raised in Walters and attended school there, graduating with the Blue Devils Class of 1961. She met a young soldier named Robert Kenneth "Bob" Thacker. They were the perfect couple and later married on July 6, 1962. Together they raised two children, daughter, Debbie, and Robert Jr., a son. Bob was a career military man, and so moving became a way of life. They lived in Lawton, Walters, Arkansas, Texas and even Italy, before settling in Duncan in 1969. Wherever they lived, Rita stayed busy working, usually in an administration role. She had wonderful social skills and abilities that served her well in business. In Duncan, she began working for Halliburton Company and retired as a materials coordinator after more than 27 years of dedicated service. Away from work, Rita enjoyed traveling, and logged countless miles cross country in their RV. She was fortunate to visit 48 states, making many friends and memories, and was a proud member of the RV club. She loved to read every night before bed, painting porcelain, and never missed a chance to shop a flea market. Rita was an excellent cook and will forever be remembered for her lemon ice box pie. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and a true friend. She will be dearly missed! She was preceded in death by: husband, Robert "Bob" Thacker Sr.; her parents, father Hershel Philpott, Mom Gwen, Dad Lawrence (LA) Black, and her brother, Bobby Philpott. Rita is survived by: her daughter, Debbie Mortensen and husband John of Newcastle; her son, Robert Thacker Jr and wife Mary of Yukon; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and a host of other family and friends. We will gather to remember Rita at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 24, 2022, at Wilson-Little, Tri City. Rita will be laid to rest at 2:00 P.M. at the Walters Cemetery.
