Roman "Skip" Earl Jones, Jr.

Roman Earl "Skip" Jones Jr. age 54 of Velma, OK passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Integris SW Medical Center in OKC. He was born on May 25, 1961 in Oklahoma City, the 3rd of four children. His parents were Roman Earl Jones Sr. and Evelyn Yvonne (Hunt) Jones. Skip grew up in Velma and graduated from Velma-Alma High School with the class of 1979. While in high school he played baseball and football. In his teens, his love for music and natural talent for rhythm and percussion lead him to pursue an instrument, the drums. He became a great drummer. At the age of 17, he played in the rock band, "Ashbury South", in which an album was released called "Oklahoma Rocks", featuring his band as one of the top ten bands of Oklahoma. He also played professionally in a country band called "Country Row". They played throughout clubs all over the state. He later looked towards the oil field which became his life long career. He first started working for Guiberson Oil Tools and went on to work at Thomas Acid and Tool Service, Briscoe Oil Tools, Basic Energy Services and returned to Thomas Acid and Tool Service to end his 30 years career in the oil field as a "Down-Hole Tool Specialist.' Skip had many hobbies including, golfing, fishing, watching movies, but mostly listening to music, playing his drums and watching OU Football. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and joke telling, and how he loved to talk on his phone, keeping in touch with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Melvin and Jannie Hunt; Father, Roman Earl Jones Sr. Step-father, Eldon E. "Cotton" Stiles; Two step-sons, Kelly Groves and Casey Groves; Nephew, Chris Bradford; He is survived by: Mother, Yvonne Stiles of Wayne, Wife, Kristy Jones of Velma, Children, Cherie Frias of Yukon, Roman Eric Jones of Yukon, Step-children, Justin Jones of Dixon, Kyle, Cody and Kevan Groves of Kansas, Cady and Kelsy Groves also of Kansas; Brother, Eldon Stiles and wife Tandy of Duncan, Sisters, Ramona Bradford of Velma, Denise Auld and husband Rodney of Wayne, Seven grandchildren, Taylor, Cooper, Evan, Hannah, Ariannah, Andon and Cruz. Aunts & Uncles Bonnie Jones of OKC, Faye Johns and husband Joe of Wayne, Kaye Hilburn and husband Jim of Wayne, Larry Stiles and wife Margaret of Duncan, OK, The mother of his children, Michelle Newman of Yukon, Also several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are, Kyle Groves, Cody Groves, Kevan Groves, Jimmy Bigham, Danny Briscoe and Marty Sikes. Funeral service will be 2:00P.M. Friday, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
