Ronnie Mears

Ronnie Mears, age 79 of Newcastle, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Norman Regional Hospital. Ronald Hurst Mears was born May 31, 1942 in Flippin, AR, the baby of 7 children born to James Lafayette "Fate" Mears and Una Ruth (Hurst) Mears. He was raised primarily in Wetumka, OK, before moving to Okla. City. By chance, while at a skating rink, he met a young lady from Midwest City. Her name was Jean James, and she had fallen while skating. Ronnie picked her up, and It wasn't too long before their first date. February 19, 1962, Ronnie married Jean, and this began their beautiful story. They made their home in Midwest City where together they raised three children, sons Ronnie and Mike and daughter, Karry. Ronnie first worked as a concrete finisher, and later started driving a truck. From Dolese to National Carriers, Ronnie logged countless miles driving the open road. He was a hard worker and a great provider. He cherished Jean, and his children, and he was never happier than the day he became a PaPa. When he wasn't working, you would probably find Ronnie fishing. He loved anything and everything to do with horses and loved a good blue grass song. He was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by: his parents, James L. "Fate" and Una Mears and siblings, James R. Mears, WL Mears, Margie Fulbright, Janna Gibson and Archie Mears. Ronnie is survived by: his wife Jean of the home; daughter, Karry Mears of MWC; his boys, Ronnie Mears of Jacktown, OK and Mike Mears and wife Lisa of Newcastle; Sister, Mary Eastham of MWC; 6 grandchildren, Brooklynn Salvato (Aaron), Ashleigh Davis, Morgan Prater (Brian), Dalton Mears, Walker Mears and Jozie Meadows; 7 great grandchildren, Kaden, Braelyn, Swazie, Boston, Stetson, Scottie and Jack and a host of other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2021, at Triumph Family Worship, 3425 S.W. 44th St., OKC, OK, 73119. Burial will follow at Newcastle Memorial Gardens.
