Wanda Lee Morrow

Wanda Lee Morrow, age 76 of Purcell, passed away, Sunday August 17, 2014 at Norman Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Wanda was born July 3, 1938 outside of Ada, Oklahoma to Raymond & Laura Brown. Wanda's mother passed away giving birth to her younger brother and a few years later, when Wanda was about 5 years old her father died unexpectantly. At that time she and her brother were placed in the Byng Baptist Children's home. She grew up in the children's home and attended Byng schools. When she graduated from the 8th grade Wanda was the Valedictorian and was Salutatorian upon high school graduation. After graduating high school she attended East Central University in Ada from 1956-1959. While in college Wanda was an active member of the Baptist Student Union where she was a member of the Executive Board and was also the BSU sweetheart her Jr. year. Wanda met the love of her life, Kenneth Joy Morrow and they were married August 14, 1959 at Brentwood Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. They made their home in Denver where in 1960 she became a Registered Medical Technologist. Kenneth and Wanda lived in Colorado for the next 3 years until moving back to Norman, Okla in 1962. Upon moving back to Oklahoma, Wanda began working for Norman Regional Hospital in the lab. While working for Norman Regional she and Kenneth later moved to Slaughterville where they spent the next 28 years. Over the next 37 ½ years Wanda worked diligently and became the Microbiolgy Supervisor until her retirement in 1999. For a few years, 1983-1985, Wanda also taught in the medical technology school. After retiring Kenneth and Wanda moved to Purcell in 1999 to be close to their daughter and her family. Wanda's only grandson, Jed, was a very important part of her life. She loved traveling to his golf tournaments no matter how hot the weather or how far the tournament. She traveled all over the United States to watch Jed play, including a tournament in Hawaii. Wanda's life was spent serving others. In 1971 Wanda joined a volunteer philanthropic service organization, Delta Kappa Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She was an active member holding most offices including the office of President twice. Wanda was a faithful member of the Purcell First Baptist Church where she was involved in many areas of service. For many years Wanda prepared the visitor welcome packets and was in charge of passing them out to visitors after the church service . Wanda was still working in the church clothes closet and was the Welcome Center greeter. She was a true servent for the Lord and loved being a part of Vacation Bible School and the funeral dinner committee. Wanda will be remembered for her willingness to help wherever there was a need. Funeral service will be 10 AM Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Purcell First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell .
