Woodrow "Woody" Jones Jr.

Woodrow Jones, age 70, of Purcell passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024. Woodrow Jones Jr. was born on August 21, 1954 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, the 5th of 6 children born to Woodrow Jones Sr. and Sylvia Etta (Harmon) Jones. The Jones family moved to Rosedale where Woody attended school up until the 8th grade. He continued his education in Wayne and graduated high school with the Bulldog Class of 1972. A short time later, Woody was introduced to a young woman named, Debra Jo Hackney. They met at a small calf roping and the rest, as they say, is history. The two quickly fell in love and were married on March 16, 1974 at the First Baptist Church in Wayne. Woody was driven and dedicated to working hard every single day. He was a welder for most of his working career, and he truly enjoyed the trade. In fact, he learned the trade from Newsty, a gentleman from Rosedale that he highly respected, and the rest he learned from experience along the way. In his free time, Woody enjoyed anything relating to animals and rodeo’s. In his younger years he enjoyed roping, bull riding, and bulldogging, and as he got older, he enjoyed attending local stock shows to see the animals and support the kids involved. Woody Jones was a strong-willed, hardworking, tough, and all-around unforgettable man. He made a lasting impression on every one he met. Woody was also known to be very particular; he believed there was a right way to do things, and that was his way! He was fun to be around and liked to have a good time. More than anything, Woody was a man devoted to his friends and family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and he always did so with a good attitude. Woody was truly a one-of-a-kind man who will be missed dearly! He was preceded in death by: his parents, Woodrow Jones Sr. and Sylvia Etta Jones; brother, Wayne Jones and sister, Alma Faye (Jones) Millsap. Woody is survived by: his loving wife, Debbie Jones of the home; son, Colby Jones and wife Amy of Purcell; brother, Ray Jones of Wayne; sisters, Emma Patton and husband Roger of Paoli, and Kathy Ray of Norman; 4 grandchildren, Hope, Faith, Grace, and Chase; brother-in-law, Tom Baird of Purcell; sister-in-law, Diane Larman and husband Steve of Wayne, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2024 at Little’s Chapel.
