Charles Lee Castleman

Charles Castleman age 83 of Purcell passed away on September 10, 2025. Charles Lee Castleman was born on May 6, 1942 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Herbert Castleman and Gladys Castleman (Yandell). He grew up in the Lindsay area, attended school there, and graduated with the Leopard Class of 1960. After graduation he learned to be a machinist, which was the beginning of a long and fruitful career. Over the years he worked for Burford, Glow-Lite, and Xenell manufacturing parts with precision and dedication. He met a young lady named Billie, they quickly fell in love, and were married on August 22, 1964 in Lindsay. Then in 1967 Billie and Charles welcomed their one and only child, Shelley. It was easy to see Shelley has always been a “daddy’s girl”. Charles and Shelley always had a very close bond and were always there for one another all through the years, talking daily. Charles spent a number of years in the Oklahoma National Guard and was proud of his service. He primarily made his home in Pauls Valley, until his retirement to Lake Texhoma where he enjoyed life by the water. He enjoyed many years there relaxing and making memories. He recently relocated to Purcell to be nearer to his family which he deeply cherished. He and his older sister Pat became more than roommates after he moved in, but more like best friends and enjoyed the last few years spending time together. In his younger years Charles was part of a storm chasing group, and loved the fresh adventure storm season brought to Oklahoma each spring. He loved dogs, and had a knack for rescuing animals in need. Charles had his own personal machine shop at home and loved to work with his hands. He liked to hunt, and could shoot a mean game of pool too. He was a jokester with a keen sense of humor, a kind heart, and a generous spirit who would help friend and stranger alike. Charles was a beloved father, brother, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Gladys Castleman, his wife Billie Castleman. His twin sister Charlette Neal, and sisters Joyce Selman and Jean Carr. He is survived by his sister Patricia McCoy of Purcell, his daughter Shelley Slawson and husband Mark Slawson of Norman. His grand daughter Taylor Cornell and husband Ryan of Bethel Acres, and two great grandchildren.
