Gary Michael Wells

Michael Wells, age 74, of Washington passed away at home on January 29, 2026. Gary Michael Wells was born on October 4, 1951 in Holdenville, Oklahoma, the 3rd of four children born to Kenneth Pete Wells and Bonnie Belle (Huddleston) Wells. The Wells family moved around quite a bit due to the farming business, but they eventually settled down near Stuart. Michael attended high school at Stuart and graduated in 1969. Shortly after graduating high school, Michael moved to Stillwater. While there, he worked as a house framer, and enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing pool in his free time. From there, Michael moved to Norman looking for a fresh start. He began landscaping and found he had a real passion for it. By chance, he met his soulmate and love of his life, Carol Yvonne Herber. As the story goes, he needed insurance and she was a successful insurance agent who refused to insure him. The rest, as they say, is history. Together, they bought a farm and settled down in Washington. Michael built their forever home where they raised their children, made countless memories, and spent their remaining years. Michael continued working in landscape and sod during this time. When Michael wasn’t working, he liked to play dominoes, Yahtzee, and watching old westerns. He would also complete puzzles and turn them into artwork. Michael also enjoyed the simple things in life, like tending to his vegetable garden, and feeding the birds and the deer that would wonder up. He was stubborn, opinionated, and independent in all the best ways. Michael loved to joke, tease, and poke fun; he brought out smiles in everyone he was around. He was also a quick to remember details, a constant provider, and extremely generous. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Gary Michael Wells truly was a one-of-a-kind man who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Carol Wells; parents, Kenneth and Bonnie Wells; sister, Brenda Weeden, and step-son, Greg Bay. Michael is survived by: his children, Cherie Schubach of Oklahoma City, Michelle Wells-Woods and husband Tim of Garden City, Kansas, and Jesse Wells of Washington; step daughter-in-law, Dalene Bay; brother, Larry Wells and wife Sheila; sister, Donna Swanner and husband Terry; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
