James & Alligene Alexander

Friends and family members will dearly miss the presence of James and Alligene Alexander, who departed this life within hours of one another, on June 30, 2019. They wed on October 8, 1949, and were married for almost 70 years. Alligene was born on September 1, 1930, and James on August 27, 1925. They were 88 and 93, respectively. They had two children, a son, Doug, who preceded them in death in 2014, and Stacy, who lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, Dr. John Freed. Alligene was one of 7 children born to Ottie and Addie (Anderson) Blackwood, and was raised in Tulare, California. She is survived by her sister, Gaylon Kastner and husband, William Sr., of Napa, California and by her brother, Dale and wife, Brenda, of Calistoga, California; 2 Sisters-in-law, Armintha and RoseElla Blackwood both of Pauls Valley, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ottie B. and Addie B. Blackwood; her sister, Cleo Coates and 4 brothers, Ott Jr, Leroy, James and Gerald Blackwood. James was one of 3 children born to Frances Victoria and Vernon Ray Alexander, and was raised in Stratford, Oklahoma. James is survived by, Brother-in-law, Eual Wood of Cheyenne, OK. He was preceded in death by, his twin brother, Joe and sister, Wanda Wood as did his step-mother, Lucille Alexander, and two half-brothers, Don Alexander and Tom Alexander. James served his country during World War II in the US Navy and was stationed in Alameda, California, the Philippines and in other locations across the world. He had a special fondness for his nieces, Radonna, Diana, Debbie and Donna. The couple is survived by; Daughter, Stacy Ann Alexander and husband Dr. John Freed of Portland, OR, 3 grandchildren, Stacy Zimmerman, of Flower Mound, Texas, Myles Cochran, of Houston, Texas and Sarah-Lynda Johnson of Portland, Oregon. They are also survived by their great-grandchildren, Kelley Haraughty, of Midwest City, Alexandra Zimmerman, of Flower Mound, Texas, Maya Cochran, of Seattle, Harry Blackwood, of Houston, and Ingrid Kesswood, of Portland. They were both preceded in death by their great-grandson, Ian Haraughty and their son, James Douglas Alexander. They would have become great-great grandparents for the first time in August. James and Alligene are also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, a Church family and many admirers. Both James and Alligene were devout Christian members of the United Methodist Church in Lexington. Alligene also attended Grace Chapel Church in the later years of her life. They were both active in Church activities and in various community service projects through the years. James enjoyed fishing, working in his vegetable garden, and volunteering as a referee for Lexington High School sports. Alligene loved reading her Bible, working in her yard and sewing, and visiting with friends. A Memorial service will be held in their honor at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel, 127 Canadian Street, in Purcell, Oklahoma.
