Jennilee M. Walker

Jennilee M. Walker, age 90 of White Settlement, Texas, and formerly of Purcell, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023. Born November 17, 1932, in Leedey, Oklahoma, she was the youngest of three children born, to Alvin E. Walker and Helen A. (Bales). At the age of 15, Jennilee married John J Walker II, a young Navy serviceman, stationed in San Diego when they met. They were married March 20, 1948, in Yuma, Arizona. After WWII they moved to Durant Oklahoma where John enrolled at Southeastern State College, and Jennilee finished high school in Durant, graduating with the Lion's Class of 1951, while working as a waitress in a local restaurant. Together they raised two sons, John J Walker III and Jerry Lee Walker. John became a basketball coach and teacher after graduation. As the wife of a coach and teacher, Jennilee traveled many miles, cheering on her favorite teams. There were stops in Durham, OK, Higgins, TX, Gage, OK, Cement OK, Temple, OK, Lexington and finally Purcell. She first worked as a secretary for the Superintendent of Temple Public Schools, a bookkeeper at First American Bank in Purcell, secretary for McClain County Commissioner Glen Christian, and finally the Department of Corrections, LARC retiring in 1995. Jennilee is a testament that it is never too late to give yourself to God through the blood of Christ. Jennilee was baptized at the age of 85 on February 4, 2018 at Castleberry Baptist Church in Fort Worth by Pastor Cris Powell. Jennilee lived life to the fullest! She enjoyed listening to Country Swing (Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys) and Country & Western music. She never missed an opportunity to dance. Known as "Grammy", she was always up for shopping, Mexican food, and a daiquiri. She made sure you knew she loved and appreciated you, and always made you feel welcome. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, and a true friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and whose lives she touched! She was preceded in death by her husband John Joseph Walker II; her parents, Alvin Walker and Helen (Bales) Brollier; and siblings Walt Walker and Lola Elwood. Jennilee is survived by her sons, John J Walker III and wife Joyce of Ft. Worth, TX and Jerry Lee Walker and wife Tracy of Sulphur Springs, TX; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
