Jerry Dan Whatley

Jerry Dan Whatley age 78 of Purcell, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the Norman Health Plex, in Norman, Oklahoma. Jerry was born on April 30, 1944 in Purcell, OK. He was the middle child of three children born to Kenneth Eugene Whatley and Ruby Mae Shea Whatley. Jerry grew up in Purcell and graduated from Purcell High School with the class of 1962. He loved Purcell and remained living in the Purcell area all of his life. On December 15, 1969, in Purcell, Jerry married the love of his life, Shirley Louise Hackney. On the day of his passing, Jerry and Shirley had been happily married for 53 years. Jerry loved working and being in the outdoors. His working career as an Outside Salesman for 38 years for Blanchard Building Supplies also kept him outdoors. Jerry was his happiest throughout his life when he was camping, hunting, and tournament Bass Fishing. Another favorite hobby of Jerry's was Cock Fighting. After many years of living his life his own way, Jerry turned his life over to Christ, got baptized and joined Iron Chapel Church west of Purcell. During the years of the growth of the church, Jerry was instrumental in the building of the new church that exists today. He and others dedicated countless hours of hard work in building and finishing it beautiful interior. Jerry always looked forward to meeting up with friends in the mornings for coffee and breakfast. He absolutely cherished his children and grandchildren. Jerry would like to be best remembered as a great family man. He was wonderful husband, a loving father and grandfather, a special brother, uncle, cousin and a dear friend to many. He was preceded in death by: Parents, Kenneth and Ruby Whatley; 3 grandchildren, Josh Whatley and Jerrica and Christony Austin and a brother-in-law, Terry McCaskill. He is survived by: Wife, Shirley of the home outside of Purcell, 5 children, David Whatley and wife Brandie of Muskogee, OK, AJ Whatley Matthews of Bristow, OK, Susie Whatley Walker of Lexington, OK, Christina Abbott and husband Lee of Lawton, Kelli Gomme and husband J.R. of Purcell; 2 sisters, Norma Tracey and husband Ronny of OKC, Sandy McCaskill of Purcell; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, Many nieces, nephews and cousins and several aunts and uncles.
