Laura Mae Hestand

Laura Mae Hestand age 78 of Oklahoma City, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018. She was born March 20, 1940 in Oklahoma City. Laura was the younger of two daughters born to Lloyd Thomas Spalding and Kathryn Elizabeth (Bee) (Osborne) Spalding. Laura grew up in south OKC and attended Capitol Hill high school. On August 26, 1957, in OKC, Laura married the love of her life, Carrol Wayne Hestand. Together they lived in OKC and raised two children, Tim and Laurie. Laura first worked at home as a homemaker and later outside of the home. For 25 years, she worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an Engineering Data Specialist. Throughout her life, Laura was a faithful Christian and attended South Walker Church of Christ and Hillcrest Church of Christ. She was currently a member of Oakcrest Church of Christ. Laura had many talents and gifts. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the WIBC and the ABC. She also was inducted into the OKC Bowling Hall of Fame. In her life time, she bowled two perfect games, and many 700 series. Laura was a great seamstress and enjoyed working with the Oakcrest Lady's Sewing Room making quilts and clothes for those in need. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, ceramics, and painting. She was a fabulous cook and hosting many family events and holiday gatherings. She enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping with her family and spent many great years with her family at their Lake Texoma cabin. She was an OU and OKC Thunder fan and enjoyed going to OU football games. Most of all, Laura loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. Grandma Poop or GGMA as she was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved so very much. She loved to attend their school functions and sporting events. She was preceded in death by: Parents, Lloyd and Elizabeth (Bee) Spalding, One sister, Yonne Pierce, One grandson, Joshua Norem; She is survived by: Husband, Wayne Hestand of the home, One son, Tim Wilcox and wife Kelly of OKC. One daughter, Laurie Hestand and companion Dana Tischer of Gordonville, TX. Five grandchildren, Amber Wilcox of OKC, Ashly Armstrong and husband Brett of Mustang, Amy Chamberlain and husband Chris of Bethany, Nick Davis and wife Sarah of Norman, Zeus Wilcox of OKC, Eight great grandchildren, Aiden, Aaron, Axton, Carter, Colt, Aisly, Daisy Mae and Rain, Also, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and close friends. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Monday, October 29, 2018 at Oakcrest Church of Christ, 1111 SW. 89th, OKC. Interment will be at Sunny Lane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of OKC. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home, 3132 Tri. City Ave., Newcastle.
