Libby Thomas

Libby Thomas, age 73, passed away on March 27, 2026 in Ada, Oklahoma. Elizabeth June Thomas was born on February 21, 1953 in Lubbock, on the Llano Estacado of Texas, to Pernie Mansfield Thomas and Tajauna Yvonne Thomas (Loveless). She grew up in Ropesville, Texas and attended school there, graduating with the Eagles class of 1971. She attended Southern Nazarene University, and then transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelors degree in special education. Later in life, Libby earned her Masters in education from New Mexico Highlands University. She had over 30 years in the classroom teaching special education in both Texas and New Mexico and finished her career in school administration. Libby loved watching her students learn and grow, and took great pride in her work. When she wasn’t working, Libby was always ready for an adventure, and she had many over the years. She would often travel to Yellowstone, no matter the season, and loved to see the outdoors on foot or in her Jeep. She appreciated the beauty of God’s creation on a grand scale, and also found pleasure in simple things like birdwatching. Although Libby loved to travel, she never let it interfere with her family time. She is remembered as one who never missed a birthday, and always showed up with a story to tell. Libby was a profound educator, beloved sister, precious aunt, and a proud Texan who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Mansfield and Yvonne, and her nephew Roger Groff. Libby is survived by her sister Brenda Roberts and husband Mike of Wanette, and her nieces Jennifer Brown and husband Thomas, Katie Jones, and Caraline Beauchamp and husband Nathan all of Wanette. She also leaves behind her great nieces and nephew Dalton Brown and wife Jordan of Byars, Allie Fletcher and husband Braiden of Konawa, Madison Wanner and husband Tyler of Nashville, TN, Jolie Jones and Jorja Jones of Wanette, and Brenna Beauchamp, Adilyn Beauchamp, and Jaxson Beauchamp of Wanette and her longtime friend Kaye Peery of Maimi, New Mexico. She is also survived by her fur baby, a beloved Schnauzer named Noey. Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm, April 11 at Ropesville Church of the Nazarene, in Ropesville, Texas.
