Lillie May Bruehl

Lillie (Mitchell) Bruehl, age 81, of Norman, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born July 31, 1940 in Washington, OK, the 8th of 10 children born to Dave and Martha (Dover) Mitchell. She was born and raised in the heart of Oklahoma and she attended school in Lexington. In 1956, Lillie met and married the love of her life, Carl William Bruehl. Together the couple raised four children Alan, Carla, Pam and Susan. Lillie and Carl were happily married for 58 years. Lillie was quite a lady and worked hard at everything she did. She was a homemaker and yet helped in the fields on the family farm. She worked several years in the kitchen for McFarland United Methodist Church in Norman where she was head cook. She also spent several years working at Stucky Diamonds. Family was everything for Lillie. She made all the holidays and family gatherings so special; she baked and cooked all the family favorites and will be forever remembered for her famous "dressing" and homemade fudge. Lillie had a gift of making people feel special. She would send letters and notes to her grandchildren throughout the years to encourage them. Lillie was a master card player. She could outplay anyone in Spades and Pitch. Lillie loved basketball and would travel to watch the team her son was coaching, as well as, any game one of her grandkids played. She adored her OU Sooners and knew all the players for the girls' basketball and softball teams. When you were friends with Lillie you were friends for life. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma and friend and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by: her parents, Dave and Martha Mitchell; her husband, Carl Bruehl; her brothers, Dave Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Monroe Mitchell, Fred Mitchell, and John Mitchell; her sisters, Dovie Madden, Laverne Croslin, and Vera Mitchell. She is survived by: her son, Alan Bruehl and wife Shawn; her daughters, Carla Albright, Pam Mason and husband Carl, and Susan Yates and husband Ted; her sister Hazel Ille and husband Dagwood; her grandchildren, Steven Albright, Josh Bruehl, Colby Mason and wife Jessica, Chase Mason and wife Tiffany, Ashley McCulloh and husband Ross, Savannah Susca and husband Gavin, Kade Yates and Bo Bruehl; her great-grandchildren, Morrison, Lennon and Hendrix Bruehl, Paris Johnson, Jordan Albright, Matthew, McKayla and Maverick Mason, Ava, Ani, and Alivia Mason, Kyla and Adalynn McCulloh and a host of family and friends.
