Paul Wayne Cottingham

Paul Wayne Cottingham age 80 of Lexington passed away Monday March 11, 2013 at the Purcell Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1933 in Barber, Arkansas. Paul was the youngest of six children born to William Harrison Cottingham and Roma Estella (Wade). Paul grew up in Arkansas and moved to Howe, OK at the age of 15. After moving to Oklahoma he attended school at Monroe, OK. Paul grew up working hard as a young boy and continued that same work ethic throughout his life. He later met and married Shirley Elmore and together they raised three children Steve, Sherri and Chris. Paul worked many years for Jack's Backhoe Service in Yukon before starting his own business in the early 1980's. For nearly 25 years he owned and operated P & S Backhoe and Dozer, serving the Cleveland and McClain Co. areas. On January 15, 1982 in Durant, OK he married Sharon Lynn Lovesee Atkins. At the time of their marriage Sharon had two children Gary and Tanya. Paul was proud to be a father again and later became a proud grandfather. He lived most of his life in the Lexington and Norman areas. He returned to Lexington in 2001 buying a small farm where he enjoyed raising cattle and riding horses. Throughout his life Paul loved spending time in the great outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. In his later years he really enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren especially his grandsons Dalton and William King. During the final weeks of Paul's life, William provided his grandfather constant care and friendship that will never be forgotten. Paul was preceded in death by: Parents: William and Roma Cottingham Three brothers: Ralph, Jimmy and Wade Cottingham Two sisters: Helen Anderson and Grethel Turner He is survived by: Wife: Sharon of the home Five children: Steve Cottingham and wife Karen of CA Sherri Bennett and husband Phillip of TX Chris Cottingham and wife Jaklyn of Deer Creek, OK Gary Atkins and wife Sherry of Norman Tanya Bergen and husband James of Newalla A sister-in-law: Ann Cottingham of OKC 14 grandchildren: Josh & wife Jessica Cottingham of Calif. , Adam & wife Maureen Cottingham of Calif., Elissa Burchett & husband Ferren of Texas, Tiffany Bennett & Lauren Trestler of New York, Marlo Chapman & husband John of New York, Caden, Connor & Teague Cottingham of Okla., William & Dalton King of Okla., Whitney & Faith Bergen of Okla, Heather & Bryce Atkins of Okla. Also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday March 14, 2013at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., Norman, OK. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maguire Baptist Church Building Fund, 9801 Maguire rd, Noble, OK 73068.
