Ronald John Willis

Ronnie Willis, age 75 of Norman, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Ronald John Willis was born April 5, 1947 in Okla. City, the oldest of three children born to John Henry Willis and Wanda (Hines) Willis. He was raised primarily in Okla. City, with the exception of a brief period in Maysville. After high school, Ronnie joined the United States Army, and served his country proudly during Vietnam. For his service, he was awarded both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Ronnie was a true patriot, but like many, returned home a very different man. He worked various odd jobs throughout the years. He applied at General Motors, while it was still being built, and built a career there the next 28 years. While at GM, a coworker, remembering that brief time in Maysville so many years ago, reconnected Ronnie with her sister, as they were there also. She was a young widow named Gail (Idleman) Cline, and they were exactly what each other needed. They eventually married, at the church it all began in, Story Baptist Church, on December 18, 2010. In his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed watching NASCAR and never missed an old Western. He and Gail were genuine Snow Birds and enjoyed spending the winter months at their place in McAllen, TX. Ronnie enjoyed golf cart rides and finding a good bargain at the flea markets. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by: his great grandson, Lukas McDonald; his son, David Willis and his parents, John and Wanda Willis. Ronnie is survived by: his wife Gail Willis of the home; His children, Susan Shell of Mustang, Brittni Willis of Okla. City, Andy Willis of Okla. City, April Cooper and husband Matthew of Norman and Jeff Cline and wife Ruby of Lexington; Sister, Cindy Wood and husband Keith of Seminole, OK; brother Mike Willis and wife Peggy of Hot Springs Village, AR; 7 grandchildren, Josh Willis, Landry Willis, Wesley Cline, Madison Cline, Morgan Cline, Tyler McDonald and Matt McDonald; 2 great grandchildren, Paisley McDonald and Zachary McDonald and a host of other family and friends.
