Roy Hugh Tompkins

Roy Hugh Tompkins, age 76, of Washington, OK. passed away on February 22, 2025 surrounded by family. Roy was born on April 21, 1948 in Wynnewood, OK. He was the youngest of 4 children born to James and Etta (Parks) Tompkins. Roy graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1966 before going to college at East Central University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He worked a number of years as a Piping Designer for Wynnewood Refinery. It was not by coincidence but by the divine intervention of God that Roy reconnected with his 5th grade sweetheart and made Linda Sue Colbert his wife on December 31, 1980. Together the couple raised 3 amazing children and celebrated 44 wonderful years of marriage. Roy cherished spending time with Linda. The couple enjoyed traveling together and also just driving around for hours looking at wildlife and being out in nature. He had a passion for photography. He would spend hours taking the perfect shot and perfecting his art. But this was a hobby that the couple worked on together. Roy would get the right angle and Linda would edit the pictures. He relished following all the kids and grandkids to all their sporting events and special occasions. Roy would do anything for them. His absolute favorite title was “Pops” and he was the “granddad of all granddad’s”. Roy was a creature of habit; you could find him eating lunch at exactly 11:30 every day and that meant supper was at 6:00. He was a man of great faith and spent years teaching a men’s bible study at Wynnewood Baptist Church and more recently attended Goldsby Church. He will be dearly missed. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, James and Etta Tompkins, and his brother, Jim Tompkins. He is survived by his wife, Linda Tompkins; his son, Joseph Tompkins and Lauren Naney of Oklahoma City; his daughters, Beth Nixon and husband Danny of Washington, and Rhonda Walters and husband Paul of Mississippi; his sisters, Jane Ganus of Oklahoma City, and Carol Lee of Oklahoma City; his 9 grandchildren, Taylor Shipley and husband Tanner, Ryan Williams and wife Sarah, Jesse Nixon and wife Shannon, Bo Nixon and wife Shannon, Hunter Nixon and wife Olivia, Sam Walters and wife Savannah, Wesley Walters, Jacob Walters and Caleb Walters and wife Ashley; his 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
