Wanda Beth Gray

Wanda Beth Gray, age 83, of Maysville, passed away, Wednesday November 23, 2016, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell. Wanda was born February 13, 1933 in Lindsay, OK. She was one of six children born to Floyd Walck and Edith (Baker) Walck. She grew up in the Payne area southwest of Purcell and later attended and graduated from Wayne High School. Wanda married Robert E. Gray (Bob) on August 20, 1949 and they made their home in Maysville/Payne area. She began teaching at Story Schools near Maysville, then taught Elementary School for Wayne Public Schools for 33 years. Wanda was a longtime and faithful member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church where she served as song leader and Sunday School teacher. Wanda loved her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. She was successful in this role, because she used Christ as the backbone and example for the life she led. She was a loving and serving wife to her husband Bob of 57 years, joyfully taking care of him as his health began to fail. Wanda was a wonderful mother, and the epitome of what it means to be a grandmother. Nanny, as she was known by them, was beyond adventurous and fun in the experiences and memories she left her grandkids and great grandkids. Whether it was riding water slides and amusement park rides or taking them to church camp or the family farm. Nanny left a true legacy behind for her family. Serve and love God, your family, your community, and do it with joy! A big chapter of Wanda's life was also spent as a teacher. She loved teaching children. She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Bob Gray; Her parents, Floyd and Edith Walck; Two Sisters, Oleta Randall and Juanita Carter; Three Brothers, Bill Walck, Max Walck and Vance Walck; Her great granddaughter, Gracie Lynn Rodgers. Wanda leaves behind: Her daughters, Mara Beth Richards of Durant and Karen Lynn Gray and Lindall McLemore of Maysville; Three grandchildren, Jill Rodgers and husband Jo, Sarah Baskin and husband Brady and John Richards and wife Amanda, all of Durant; Great grandchildren, Emma and Max Rodgers, Abigail, Hannah and Otto Baskin, Guy and Hattie Richards of Durant; Brother-in-law, Gaylon Gray and wife Joell of Purcell; Two sisters-in-law, Berlita Walck and Barbara Walck; Nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
